The Western Australian Government has welcomed the newest cohort of mine safety inspectors, with 13 new recruits added to the inspectorate.

Mines and Petroleum Minister Norman Moore welcomed the 13 new inspectors while presenting their certificates at an event held in Cannington.

“The recruitment process for these inspectors is extremely stringent as the role holds a huge amount of responsibility, encouraging high standards, imparting knowledge and investigating serious incidents,” Mr Moore said.

“Today’s graduates will work in several specialty areas; eight will cover mines safety, four will work in petroleum and one in dangerous goods area.

“These appointments are part of an ongoing major recruitment program to attract additional safety inspectors, which is all part of the State Government’s number one aim to improve safety and health for everyone working in the resources sector.”

The Reform and Development at Resources Safety (RADARS) strategy was established by the Department of Mines and Petroleum in 2010, following independent inquiries and a spate of mining deaths.
