Woodside Petroleum has come across some new gas off the West Australian coast.

The company announced its new gas discovery to the ASX, and say it is keen to get digging.

The ‘Pyxis-1’ exploration well intersects 18.5 metres of net gas in Jurassic sandstone with a total depth of 3,347 metres. It is located 15 kilometres north of the Pluto gasfield infrastructure.

Woodside executive VP global exploration Philip Loader says the new discovery could be tied into the existing Pluto infrastructure, due to its close proximity to Barrow Island, part of Woodside’s WA-34-L production licence.

Operator Woodside Burrup is a 90 per cent equity owner of the licence, with the reminder held by Kansai Electric Power Australia and Tokyo Gas Pluto.
