Western Australia’s Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls believes the cost of Tony Abbot’s proposed ‘food bowl’ plan will run into the billions.

A Coalition white paper due for release shortly will detail the Opposition’s plan for massive infrastructure spending and land use reforms, Mr Grylls thinks his region is in a prime position to benefit.

Mr Grylls says "there is tremendous potential but... that potential has got to be turned into something... you need billions and billions of dollars in capital but over the next 50 years... I think that billions of capital is probably available."

"Northern Australia and northern Western Australia in particular have shown a unique ability to attract international capital, in its billions... it's not something that a mum and dad family farmer can do. It does require a lot of money,” Mr Grylls said.
