The Victorian Government’s $28 million Transport Solutions Regional Freight Initiative has officially begun with the announcement of $4.5 million in funding being allocated to three projects in the Geelong area.

State Minister for Ports, David Hodgett, said that the Transport Solutions initiative is a key step towards delivering significant productivity improvements to the state’s freight industry.

“The Transport Solutions initiative delivers a series of projects aimed at reducing bottlenecks in the regional freight network,” Mr Hodgett said.

“Through careful planning and strategic decision making we’re creating an economic domino effect that pays dividends all the way down the supply chain from the regions to the ports.

Mr Hodgett also announced funding for road improvements to the Princes Freeway West – Beach Road Off Ramp and Bayside Road Intersection. Together these projects will improve heavy vehicle access to support the surrounding grain, livestock and timber industries.

The two additional Transport Solutions roads projects announced by Mr Hodgett were:

  • $95,000 – Princes Freeway West, Beach Road Off Ramp improvements
  • $171,000 – North Geelong, Bayside Road intersection improvements (includes $85,500 funding from the Commonwealth Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program)
