The Transport Workers' Union has maintained its demands for Australia’s road safety watchdog to stay in place.

The union brought politicians and truck drivers together in Canberra to keep up support for the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal (RSRT) to remain, following a 2014 review questioning its usefulness.

“Tony Abbott and Eric Abetz, the minister in charge, need to call off this attack on the road safety tribunal,” TWU National Secretary Tony Sheldon said at the rally in Canberra.

“Our members and their families know what pressure on truck drivers can result in and it is ugly, horrific and sad.”

Mr Sheldon pointed out that trucking is Australia's deadliest profession, and called for all union members and supporters to reach out to politicians to support the RSRT remaining.
