The Transport Ministers of Papua New Guinea and Australia have met in Brisbane to talk about ways of improving the relationship and business opportunities for the neighbouring nations.

Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss, met with his PNG counterpart the Honourable Ano Pala, Minister for Transport. The two congratulated each other on their respective achievements, and welcomed the next phase of the Transport Safety and Security Programme.

“Our partnership is ongoing and coming together regularly is key to delivering the Programme which runs through to June 2018,” Mr Truss said

“The programme fosters capacity building in coming years across transport safety and security, aviation, maritime and land transport.”

“I have congratulated Minister Pala on the recent launch of the PNG National Transport Strategy. The bringing together of the Safety and Security elements of the Transport Sector Support Programme, the Strongim Gavman Programme and the Australia-PNG Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Transport Sector complements and supports the new PNG transport sector vision.”

“I look forward to future meetings between our nations,” the Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, which includes the transport portfolio, said.
