Gas is floating from Queensland’s Curtis Island port, marking the successful commission and testing of QCLNG’s Train 1.

The first shipment of gas from the QCLNG gas plant left, bound for Singapore, earlier in January amid media reports of processing problems and delays.

Local news outlet the Gladstone Observer reported on rumours about contamination in the plant holding up the commissioning process, which operating company QGC has since denied.

More cargo is planned for the new QCLNG Train 1 route, while Train 2 is expected to start production in the third quarter of 2015.

With both lines in action, production is expected to hit 8 million tonnes of LNG per year.

QGC has also unveiled a new partnership with BOC, which will see the firms work on a micro-LNG plant near the Surat Basin town of Chinchilla.

The plant is intended to supply QGC’s gas to BOC for domestic use in the mining, manufacturing, and long-haul trucking markets.
