The National Heavy Vehicle Regulators committee has welcomed a representative from the South Australian Road Transport Association to a seat at its table.

National Heavy Vehicle Regulators committee is currently discussing the details of a proposed five-star safety rating scheme for the trucking industry. A member of the South Australian Road Transport Association (SARTA) has been asked to join after a public opinion expressed by SARTA’s Executive Director highlighted the lack of opportunity for input from the South Australian group.

After a month-long wait NHVR brought SARTA aboard and will continue the process of establishing a national steering committee and a feasibility study of the five-star scheme. Reports so far say the scheme would be geared towards rating companies on their safety credentials and possibly rewarding the highest safety-rated firms.

Other groups have also been asked to nominate members to sit on NHVR.
