The South Australian Government is providing $3.6 million over the next four years to boost training in the State’s mining industry.

Employment, Training and Further Education Minister, Jack Snelling said the funding had been allocated to the industry’s key training body in South Australia - the Resources and Engineering Skills Alliance (RESA).

He said the new funding follows the establishment last year of a new Mining Trades Centre as part of a $6.5 million revamp of facilities at the TAFE SA Whyalla Campus.

“The new facilities include upgraded mining, electrical and instrumentation workshops, campus accessibility and learning areas to meet future training needs,” Mr Snelling said.

“We’re improving our TAFE facilities as part of the State Government’s commitment to invest $194 million to help create an extra 100,000 apprenticeships and training places over the next six years.

“We’ve also released our Skills for All reform program aimed at modernising and renewing the VET system to ensure South Australians have the skills for future growth in existing, new and emerging industries.

“TAFE SA’s Whyalla Campus will help meet the training needs of the primary and secondary industries servicing the increasing number of mining developments in the north and north-west regions of the State.” Mr Snelling said.
