Today is World Plumbing Day, an event to celebrate the vital but often unsung work of plumbers across the globe.

Plumbers harness our single most important resource - water - so that it can be used for human health, hygiene and well-being.

From Archimedes’ Screw to the aqueducts of ancient Rome, good plumbing is linked to the very existence of modern society.

World Plumbing Day was founded by the World Plumbing Council (WPC) as a means of highlighting the important role played by the plumbing industry for public health and the environment.

The Council says that on this day, plumbing organisations throughout the world are encouraged to undertake an activity which will raise the profile of the industry.

Seminars, receptions, presentations in schools and press promotions are taking place in countries including Australia, New Zealand, India, USA, UK and many others.

Plumbers and industry advocates are posting message or praise and support under the Twitter hashtag #WorldPlumbingDay.

The World Plumbing Council chairman has uploaded a video message to mark the occasion.

Following that, Paul Naylor of the Master Plumbers Association NSW talks about the importance and achievements of Australian plumbing standards.

Finally, industry supplier Caroma has posted an informative video thanking local plumbers.
