A pilot has been praised for his skill and courage after an emergency landing in Darwin.

The pilot of a twin-engine plane executed an emergency belly landing at Darwin Airport, managing to bring it to ground with no landing gear and no subsequent injuries.

The plane was carrying just three people on its way to Arnhem Land when it experienced difficulties with its landing gear.

It was redirected to Darwin where it made the dangerous belly-landing.

Passenger Geoff Harper has told the ABC he felt he was in safe hands.

“It was well-controlled and well-managed ... the pilot kept us informed the whole time,” he said.

Emergency crews were onsite when the plane touched down, but only had routine checks to undertake as everyone was deemed safe.
