New South Wales police have reported on their ongoing truck safety crack down, focused this time in the state’s north.

Officers from Richmond Local Area Command were assisted by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, as well as Inspectors from Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Ballina Shire Council for the operation.

The sweep was conducted at the Pacific Highway and Bruxner Highway interchange, where nearly 50 vehicles were inspected in a single day.

A total of 18 notices to fix defects were issued, eight of which related to major defects like faulty brakes.

Two of the majorly defective were grounded immediately, while two drivers were directed to cease work for 24 hours after failing to keep proper driving records.

While police issued 18 infringements notices in total, one man managed to tick almost all the boxes.

The 32-year-old driver from Grafton was charged with driving under the influence and possessing a prohibited drug, while his vehicle was grounded due to faulty brakes and an inaccurate driving log.
