The New South Wales Government has announced additional access for farm freight trucks east of the Newell Highway in the state’s northwest.

“I’m delighted to announce modern road trains*, B-triples and AB-triples operating at approved mass limits will be permitted to access specified new routes east of the Newell Highway in the Narrabri and Gwydir shires,”  State Minister for Roads and Ports Duncan Gay said.

“Our policy is simple. If the road is safe enough, straight enough, strong enough and has the potential to enhance freight productivity in a region then the NSW Government will carefully consider allowing access to higher productivity trucks – albeit not in built up residential areas.”

The announcement by Mr Gay comes after the Roads and Maritime Services and Narrabri and Gwydir Shire Councils conducted detailed route assessments that examined key factors, including safety, accident history, noise, geometry and truck turning limits.
