CSIRO has appointed a new director from within the organisation for its Minerals Down Under National Research Flagship.

Mr John Law, who joined CSIRO in 2002, was selected in an international recruitment process.

Mr Law holds a Bachelor and Masters of Science in Geology from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists.

Prior to joining CSIRO he worked with Gencor, now part of BHP Billiton and Gold Fields Limited, in the Geological Research Unit on various aspects of ore genesis and target generation. He then worked with Gold Fields on their global exploration and evaluation team and with several Australian junior exploration companies.
