Brisbane will have to wait for its scheduled Riverside Expressway maintenance, with work being postponed today.

Plans were laid to perform checks on all of the bridge’s jacks after corrosion was discovered in May. It would have meant closures from June 28 to July 1, there is no word yet on when they will now occur.

Planned works include the replacement of pot-bearings, which are embedded in the bridge and allow for changes in temperature and traffic.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson says, “The Riverside Expressway is still safe to use and we’ll keep motorists updated on future works.”
