The Role

FSB is seeking qualified engineers in any of the following engineering disciplines; chemical, mechanical, maritime or aeronautical, to provide technical assurance of the Defence fuel storage and transfer systems and to lead and manage the planning and delivery of a strategic stakeholder engagement plan for FSB.

The EL1 Chief Engineer Manager will lead and oversee the engineering requirements for the stratgeic asset management elements within the Defence Fuel Supply Chain (DFSC). They will work closely with internal and external stakeholders of the DFSC. The APS6 Engineering Professional Mechanical/Material will work to the EL1 and support the development and implementation of the asset and engineering management frameworks across the DFSC.

The EL1 Research Engineer will lead, manage, assess and report on the FSB stakeholder relationships across Defence and Defence Industry. They will also provide strategic oversight of fuel and inventory management research into operational analysis and alternative fuels.

The EL1 Research Engineer role is only available in Canberra, but Melbourne will also be considered as a location for the other two roles (EL1 and APS6).

About our Team

The Facilities Directorate maintains engineering, standards and holds design authority across the Defence Fuel Supply Chain (DFSC). These activities sustain oversight of the DFSC asset integrity focusing on fitness for purpose and service. The Directorate also identifies opportunities to enhance the DFSC through partnerships with industry.

The Facilities Directorate comprises the Strategic and Asset Management (SAM) section and the Capability Development section. The Chief Engineer Manager EL1 and Engineer Professional Mechanical/Material APS6 roles sit within the SAM section. The SAM Section leads and manages DFSC assets, asset infrastructure stabndards and exceutes design authority across the DFSC.

The Strategic Engagement and Management Directorate coordinates internal and external DFSC strategic engagement and provides strategic support across the DFSC and Fuel Services Branch. The EL1 Research Engineer role will be the trusted Engineer and fuel expert across the DFSC. They will lead and manage the planning and delivery of strategic engagement, providing stratgeic oversight of fuel and inventory management research into operations and future innovations such as alternative fuels/energy.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidates will be Engineering professionals with a drive for continuous improvement, safety and technical innovation. Fuel Services Branch (FSB) is a key member of a number of international working groups and as such the successful candidates will also need to have the skills to liaise confidently with high profile stakeholders.

We are looking for candidates who understand the fuel industry, engineering standards and are also motivated by finding innovative solutions to engineering issues affecting the delivery of ADF operations and Australia's national security.

While a strong understanding and depth of experience in technical engineering is required, FSB is also looking for engineers who can translate the technical information into policy and strategic advice to a broad range of stakeholders. If you enjoy working in a fast paced environment, helping to secure, maintain and improve highly technical ADF fuel capabilities, then these roles will be ideal for you. FSB needs engineers who can not only walk the talk but be willing to think outside the usual and be flexible enough to change priorities at short notice when operational demands shift. This is a chance to support a key part of ADF capbility and ensure the safety, security and professionalism of the Defence Fuel Supply Chain.

We are hoping to create a merit pool from this process to fill other engineering vacancies across the Fuel Services Branch as they arise.
