Assessments and Approvals Officer 

We are NSW’s bulk water supplier, river operator and your one-stop shop for licensing, water trades and water information.  We supply two thirds of water used in NSW from our 42 dams, rivers and pipelines to regional towns, irrigators, Sydney Water and local water utilities. We also own and operate the largest surface and groundwater monitoring network in the southern hemisphere and build, maintain and operate essential infrastructure.

We are currently looking for an Assessments and Approvals Officer to join our team at either our Parramatta or Nowra office. If you are an exceptional communicator, with strong customer service, leadership qualities and people skills, keep reading!

At WaterNSW our goal is to ensure we go above and beyond our customers’ expectations. We supply and seek to improve availability of water that is essential for water users and the communities throughout NSW. We do this by providing efficient and timely services to customers for water licences and approvals for surface water and groundwater.

In this technical role, you will be responsible for completing environmental and technical assessments under the legislative framework to make recommendations on water access licences, dealings and approvals predominately in the Sydney metropolitan, South Coast and Hunter area. This is a customer service-based role, you will be required to be motivated, a clear communicator, manage workflow, provide technical advice and guidance within your team and to the customers on a daily basis.

You will provide information and expert advice to customers, employees and stakeholders to improve their understanding of the regulatory framework for water. Key to your role will be reviewing environmental and technical assessments of water access licences, dealings and approval applications.

What is essential?

  • Demonstrated skills and experience working in a busy operational environment
  • Demonstrated experience in navigating and interpreting legislation and regulatory instruments, especially in a processing environment
  • A demonstrated understanding of the principles of sustainable resource management will be advantageous
  • Resolving customer matters to ensure effective outcomes
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy team environment; including remote working
  • Intra state travel
  • NSW drivers licence
