Job description:

We have an exciting upcoming opportunity on the Western Program Alliance (WPA) for a number of Health & Safety and Rail Safety Advisors. These positions will be site-based and we have multiple roles in the Western as well as Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

About the Role

As a Health & Safety and Rail Safety Advisor, you will provide operational advice and support to the delivery teams relating to Health & Safety as well as Rail Safety. This dual aspect to the role has a key focus to ensure that construction activities occurring within the rail corridor do not have an adverse impact on train operations and are being conducted safely for WPA employees and contractors.

The Successful Candidate

We are looking for candidates who can provide visible safety leadership and support the Alliance safety culture. They will have strong communication skills and be able to work effectively with a range of stakeholders. The successful candidates will also be supported to further develop their skills in the Health & Safety and Rail Safety areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the Health & Safety/Rail Safety Systems for the Alliance
  • Liaise with and advise construction personnel regarding mitigation and management of risks and hazards
  • Conduct a range of inspection related activities including: high risk activities, Rail Safety Compliance Inspections, Health and Safety Walks etc.
  • Ensure project compliance to RTO's management system requirements, such as Rail Safety Working, PTDTs, NAEs, HV and O/H Permits
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training packages/training material for use within the Western Program Alliance
  • Complete investigations and develop reports on all incident investigations in line with client, Rail Transport Operator, and WPA reporting requirements
  • Participate in project risk assessments and preparation of site risk registers for each construction execution plan
  • Coordinate the daily provision of Track Protection personnel for all works and supervise Track Protection Force Protection Coordinators, the application of Safeworking protection arrangement
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Qualifications and competencies in either or both of the following: Certificate IV in Workplace Health & Safety or TFPC 3.1
  • Understanding of construction based OHS and general rail safety
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and works planning
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint etc.)
