CSIRO’s Manufacturing Business Unit brings together multi-disciplinary scientific and engineering capabilities using world-class infrastructure to partner with industry in order to develop innovative products and processes to allow Australian manufacturers to be globally competitive and environmentally sustainable.

CSIRO’s Applied Porous Materials Team is a part of the Manufacturing business and is seeking an enthusiastic individual with a chemistry or materials science background to join their team. This team has a rich array of fundamental and applied projects underway and is seeking to appoint a person that can apply technical skills, problem solves, manages instrument equipment, and is challenged to design and build devices.  The successful applicant will strengthen the engineering capability of the team and build on their portfolio of skills.

Your duties will include:

  • Providing a variety of support in managing the timing of operations within the work team.
  • Planning and scheduling ahead to ensure experiment timelines are met as per project demand.
  • Managing laboratory equipment and being accountable for its daily maintenance and operations.
  • Providing training to the users of laboratory equipment and executing experimental setup and design.
  • Undertaking experiments, laboratory analyses or technology development activities (some non-routine) using a range of techniques to meet competing priorities
  • Contributing to activities like report writing and technical analysis.  

Location: Clayton
Salary: AU$66k – AU$84k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term of up to 24 months / Full-time

To be considered you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience in chemical engineering, material science or related field.
  • Demonstrated practical application and/or industry experience in any of the following industries: chemical, gas or processing.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling materials, gases and cylinders. 
  • Evidence of participation or leadership in safe work practices in laboratories
  • Proven experience in using analytical instruments
  • Demonstrated track record of working collaboratively within a team to achieve results.
  • Any experience in Swagelok is desirable

Eligibility

Applications for this position are open to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents and Australian Temporary Residents, currently residing in Australia with a valid working visa to cover the length of the specified term without the requirement of visa sponsorship from CSIRO.

Appointment to this role is subject to the provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.
