Who you are

You will be responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing review of WHS processes and procedures, conducting audits and inspections, seeking verification of compliance (on an ongoing basis) and ensuring that actions are taken as a result of compliance reviews based on risk management principles to continue to build Sydney Airport’s safety culture. You are aligned with Sydney Airport’s values of integrity and openness; safety and security; excellence; teamwork, creativity and flexibility; and sustainability.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Manager WHS you will be responsible for:

  • Championing the increased awareness of Sydney Airport's safety strategy, including the SMS, amongst staff by partnering with the business to educate, guide and implement safety initiatives.
  • Provide WHS support, advice, coaching and guidance to managers, staff and other stakeholders in line with Sydney Airport's WHS policies, procedures, practices and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure the delivery of assigned WHS Strategic Plan improvement projects and Safety Management System continuous improvement in line with safety strategy.
  • Maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of Sydney Airport's SMS, ensuring policies, procedures, practices and projects in alignment with AS/NZ4801 and CASA requirements.
  • Assist with the review, update, consultation, communication and implementation of all WHS policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure they are current, applicable, practical and meet organisational and legal requirements.
  • Establish and maintain the quality program of all safety documents.
  • Conduct audits in relation to Sydney Airport engaged contractor activity as per the annual audit schedule or as a result of an incident and ensure audit results are analysed and recommend remedial action as required.
  • Provide on the job education and training to staff in Sydney Airport's hazard and/or incident reporting, investigation, safety risk management and consultation processes.
  • Conduct and lead comprehensive incident investigations into major incidents.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving capabilities, in a complex operating environment
  • Strong organisational skills, an ability to achieve results and meet deadlines
  • Strong WHS Auditing skills
  • Proven ability to use initiative to ensure continuous and safe operations
  • A strong safety focus and appreciation of service delivery standards
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft applications
  • Ability to obtain an Authority to Drive Airside
  • Degree qualified in WHS or equivalent
  • WHS Lead Auditor Certification
  • Current State Driver's Licence
  • Knowledge of safety practices
  • ICAM lead investigator
  • Cert IV in training and assessment
  • Knowledge of the Australian aviation regulatory framework including CASA standards
  • Knowledge of WHS Policies and Procedures and Safety Management Systems
