About the Role

The People, Community & Sustainability team is seeking applications from suitably experienced candidates for the Temporary Full Time position of Safety Specialist.

The Safety Specialist position is responsible for providing expert advice, support and guidance to ensure GPC can meet their accountabilities under GPC’s Safety Management System and that GPC meets all of its statutory obligations for safety.  The Safety Specialist will also assist in driving a positive safety culture by working closely with leaders and workforce to coach and mentor for safe behaviours.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • To provide expert safety technical advice to Employees, Contractors and Port Users;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of an AS4801 accredited safety management system;
  • Ensure the safety management system is effectively implemented within the Maintenance teams:
    • Provide advice and coaching on safety management system implementation and arising issues;
    • Conducted workplace inspections and audits;
    • Facilitate risk assessments as required;
    • Perform quality checks on investigations and Cintellate;
    • Perform quality checks on risk assessments and safety related work procedures;
  • Lead Safety Improvement projects as assigned via the annual safety business plan or other business need;
  • Mentor and coach leaders and workforce to enhance their safety leadership skills and behaviours;
  • Lead major incident investigation as directed.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Safety Specialist who has great personal drive, adept at working collaboratively. The successful applicant will have a core understanding of maintenance and operational practices, have the ability to build influential relationships and exhibit a deep understanding of safety principles.
