The Minerals Council of Australia has upped its anti-carbon tax campaign after announcing it will invoice its members for contributions to screen a fresh round of television and film advertising campaign.

The MCA is upping the ante over the campaign as the Federal Government plans to push the legislation through as early as November this year. The MCA will combat the government’s move by requesting the equivalent of half each member’s annual fees.

The move by the MCA comes after Federal Climate Change Minister Greg Combet admitted that concerns in the community were growing over the impact of the carbon tax.

“People do have concerns about cost of living and job security and the like,” Mr Combet old ABC Radio.

"We had a six-month period of extensive consultation with the business community in which many business leaders effectively and constructively engaged."

However, the MCA has denied that sufficient levels of consultation was undertaken and has proposed the anti-tax campaign as a response to the Federal Government’s reported refusal to meet with the group.
